BIG DAYS

12/24/2010-We're pregnant!
3/23/2011-Tuckers a boy. We also find out he has Myelomeningocele. Which is a defect where the spinal cord doesn't fully develop. Essentially the spinal cord has an opening. This also causes hydrocephalus; spinal fluid builds up in the ventricals (in the head) and needs a shunt put into to circulate back into the body.
3/28/11-Met with neurologist to talk about severity of Tucker's defect. It was hell waiting 5 days. After having a good talk, Liane and I went and did some baby shoppiing. It was a great day of relief.
7/27/11-C-section date 730am. Surgery to close his spine to come within 48hrs.
7/28/11-Surgery to close spine.

Waiting More

7/28/11 9:30am-Nurse informs me that Tucker got bumped to 2nd in priority and would be next for surgery. That started to stress me out because Tucker was starting to get fussy. And what can you do with a newborn that can't eat normally and you can't touch? The nurse tells me around 1pm he would be picked up. 130pm rolls around and they tell me 230pm to 300pm. The time could not move any slower. This 24 hours felt like an eternity. I think the hardest part was that Liane was 10 miles away at Overlake recovering from her c-section surgery. Big thanks to my Dad for being here for Tuckers birth and the day after. He was able to be by my side and talk with me about everything that was going on. Oh, and he was making sure I was eating. His timing worked out perfect because Liane would be released the following morning.
