BIG DAYS

12/24/2010-We're pregnant!
3/23/2011-Tuckers a boy. We also find out he has Myelomeningocele. Which is a defect where the spinal cord doesn't fully develop. Essentially the spinal cord has an opening. This also causes hydrocephalus; spinal fluid builds up in the ventricals (in the head) and needs a shunt put into to circulate back into the body.
3/28/11-Met with neurologist to talk about severity of Tucker's defect. It was hell waiting 5 days. After having a good talk, Liane and I went and did some baby shoppiing. It was a great day of relief.
7/27/11-C-section date 730am. Surgery to close his spine to come within 48hrs.
7/28/11-Surgery to close spine.

Children's 1/16/12

The night of 1/15/12,  Liane noticed some free floating fluid built up around Tuckers shunt on top of his skull. This was very abnormal looking. He was fussy for a couple hours that night and when he cried it was more of a shriek than a normal cry.  The weather was awful so we held off taking him to Children's until the next early morning. He actually slept okay which we were both pretty surprised with.  Once checked into the ER at Children's, they did x-rays and a CT scan. Neuro-surg took a look at it and everything looked normal. They sent us home and said to continue to monitor and that they saw no signs of shunt malfunction.  That was good to hear.  He acted normal all morning and most of the day.  He then caught his first cold last night.   He was very congested and it was extremely sad for us to see him that way. SOOO SAD!  He wanted to sleep so bad but every time he laid down he'd get clogged up forcing him to wake :(:(  We adjusted his swing to sit him up pretty high. So he slept in the family room and Liane and I slept in the living room to be close.  I don't know how many times Liane got up, but it was lots, like every 20-30 minutes until about 3am. Pushing his binky in, changing him, attempting to feed him. I felt bad for both. She is such an amazing mother, we couldn't ask for a better one. I was up for work around 4am.  We've had pretty bad weather so I took Liane's car, which is much bigger than the DadMobile, and left early home from work to beat the weather and to get her a nap before work. She had a big smile on her face when I walked in the door, causing me to have a bigger smile. How lucky I am.  After her nap she said she felt "like a million bucks,"  Thank god, she's got a long night ahead of her at work. Tuesday night is boys night, so Tucker will get a bath and 2 basketball games. Very excited. Hopefully he stays decongested as he's been for most of the day.

  1. You all are such a sweet family. I hope your little guy feels better soon. It's heartbreaking seeing our little ones sick. Enjoy your boys night!

  2. I am glad Tucker's shunt is holding up. Colds and babies don't mix well Ricky. I feel for ya though. Lex had colic... couldn't put him down without him screaming bloody murder!... Maybe it was just his tummy or something...he grew out of it but boy oh boy, for the first couple of years of his life, it was that way. I admire you Ricky for being a loving and tenderhearted husband and daddy. LeeAnn is a very blessed woman to have such a devoted husband as you are. Kiss Little Tucker for me. Sorry I couldn't see ya on the 5th... it was just as well. I don't think I would have been very good company that day. Hugs to you Sweetie!...I love ya'll. Auntie Vicki
