BIG DAYS

12/24/2010-We're pregnant!
3/23/2011-Tuckers a boy. We also find out he has Myelomeningocele. Which is a defect where the spinal cord doesn't fully develop. Essentially the spinal cord has an opening. This also causes hydrocephalus; spinal fluid builds up in the ventricals (in the head) and needs a shunt put into to circulate back into the body.
3/28/11-Met with neurologist to talk about severity of Tucker's defect. It was hell waiting 5 days. After having a good talk, Liane and I went and did some baby shoppiing. It was a great day of relief.
7/27/11-C-section date 730am. Surgery to close his spine to come within 48hrs.
7/28/11-Surgery to close spine.

Kangaroo Care

Since Tucker has not done so well with a bottle, we started Kangaroo Care last night. He has a tube from his nose to his belly to get him food. They slowly feed him thorugh it over an hour. During that hour he is placed on mommy or daddys skin. Only a couple minutes into it, his heart rate went way down. He was passed out and sooo comfortable on mommmy's chest. It was a great bonding time for both of them, and I was pretty jealous...of both of them!

  1. Despite the challenges he may face he has a HUGE support system that will always be there to help him throughout his entire life. But what's better is that he has a mother and father and grandparents who will not only help him thrive beyond what the doctors predict but what no one could even imagine. The love you guys have for little Tucker is a blessing from above and with that we all know he is in good hands no matter what the medical profession predicts because at the end of the day it is all God's plan and this little guy has already touched so many hearts and made the world a little brighter.
