Not last night but the night before, Tucker was fussy all night. He was not really crying, but very fussy. We couldn't figure it out. We fed him, repositioned him, gave him a binky, held him...still fussy. None of us got a wink of sleep, we felt so sorry for him because we, including the nurses, couldn't figure it out. The nurse took his temp twice it came back normal, all his vitals were normal. I asked the nurse to measure his head and it was 34cm. The day prior it was 32.9cm. I was alarmed but no one else thought so. So yesterday morning the neuro and plastics teams came to see him. Plastics weren't concerned but as soon as the neuro team looked at him and felt his fontanels, they told Liane that he needed to get a ct scan and in to surgery immediately. This means Tucker does have hydrocephalus. I had left about an hour prior to swap out laundry and such at our house. Liane called me and I rushed back to the hospital. We were shocked to see such a sense of urgency to get him into surgery. We've been getting the "oh, we'll keep an eye on it" on every concern for several days. We actually both were not worried, but happy that he was getting the surgery. We both expected this since 80% of children with sb need this operation.
Just after an hour later, the surgery was complete. They moved us once again to another floor, this time the Surgery Recovery floor. It's like a suite! Window, our own shower, great! We were not happy with our last room that we were sharing, and the nurses were nothing like the NICU nor the nurses we have on the surgical floor. Happy baby, happy mommy, happy daddy. So now Tucker is resting and in recovery.

Tucker Alan Schreckenghost was born at 8:02am on July 27, 2011. Tucker was born with Spina Bifida (S2) and has already shown us how strong of a person he is. My goal is to tell his story to friends and family and share his journey through this unpredictable life. To learn his full story, start from the first posting. Enjoy!
BIG DAYS
12/24/2010-We're pregnant!
3/23/2011-Tuckers a boy. We also find out he has Myelomeningocele. Which is a defect where the spinal cord doesn't fully develop. Essentially the spinal cord has an opening. This also causes hydrocephalus; spinal fluid builds up in the ventricals (in the head) and needs a shunt put into to circulate back into the body.
3/28/11-Met with neurologist to talk about severity of Tucker's defect. It was hell waiting 5 days. After having a good talk, Liane and I went and did some baby shoppiing. It was a great day of relief.
7/27/11-C-section date 730am. Surgery to close his spine to come within 48hrs.
7/28/11-Surgery to close spine.
