BIG DAYS

12/24/2010-We're pregnant!
3/23/2011-Tuckers a boy. We also find out he has Myelomeningocele. Which is a defect where the spinal cord doesn't fully develop. Essentially the spinal cord has an opening. This also causes hydrocephalus; spinal fluid builds up in the ventricals (in the head) and needs a shunt put into to circulate back into the body.
3/28/11-Met with neurologist to talk about severity of Tucker's defect. It was hell waiting 5 days. After having a good talk, Liane and I went and did some baby shoppiing. It was a great day of relief.
7/27/11-C-section date 730am. Surgery to close his spine to come within 48hrs.
7/28/11-Surgery to close spine.

Progress

5/18/12-We took Tucker to Childrens for a check up before taking a trip to Alaska. They did a Haste MRI and his ventricles have never looked better!  His last revision they pushed the catheter into his right ventricle which always seemed to carry fluid.  This was the first time we've seen them both completely empty!  It was great to see to say the least, and also made us a little more at ease taking him all the way up to Anchorage. Since if anything did happen with his shunt, we would be taking a plane to Seattle Children's anyway. Developmentally Tucker is coming along well. He's still very small, now back down to the 5th percentile in height, weight and head size. He's using both arms and hands, his left hand still needs some work.  He is loving finger foods, shocker. Puffs and the yogurt bites he can pick up with his little two fingers.  He's starting to use his legs a lot more, in the Johnny Jump Up, when laying on his back, and when you hold him up and he pushes up and down with his legs. He's rolling over like crazy, and can sit up when propped. Mari our PT still comes over every Wednesday and works with him. He absolutely loves her, so do we. She's given us some tricks to help him start crawling, he's already showing good signs with them. He's doing a lot more copying; he can attempt clapping when you do, he clicks with his mouth after you do, and will make a "ooh" sound after you do.  Such a good boy, we are still so lucky to have him.
